Getting to know the princess cut  diamonds

The Princess cut , un like some of the vintage cuts like the cushion-cut, is relatively new and dates back to the 1960’s.  The Princess cut was first introduced in London by A. Nagy who designed the cut for mere economical reasons. When compared with the round brilliant-cut, the princess cut could preserve more of the rough stone, wile achieving the same degree of brilliance and fire as those of the brilliant cut. For this reason, the princess cut is also known as ‘the square modified brilliant-cut’.

Uses of the Princess Cut Diamond:

Princess cut diamonds are found in jewelry of all types, but most often in engagement rings and stud earrings.  Their square shape makes the stone perfect for modern diamond jewelry, but like all diamond cuts, they can be beautiful in any setting.  Here are some stunning examples of princess cut diamond jewelry:

Prior to the introduction of  princess cut,  square cuts did not have many facets and were merely emerald cuts, with a lesser degree of brilliance.  The Princess cut  can therefore combine the high degree of light of a round brilliant cut with the distinction of a square or rectangular shape. In terms of cuts for diamonds, the Princes cut is the second most popular after the round brilliant-cut.
