Sterling Silver

How to clean your sterling silver pieces correctly

Despite being exquisite, sterling silver usually reacts to moisture creating a layer of oxidation on the surface, making your jewelry look dirty and even old. A great way to clean it involves mixing baking soda and boiling water; it is one of the simplest and most eco-friendly ways to clean your sterling silver.

First you boil enough water in which you can submerge all your sterling silver jewelry; next, in a plastic dish, place a piece of crumpled aluminum sheet; then put your jewelry pieces on the aluminum paper making sure that the silver makes contact with it; the next step is to sprinkle a thin layer of baking soda on all the jewelry pieces. Once this process is completed, you must dip the jewelry in the boiling water and stir them around gently with a wooden or plastic utensil; you’ll see how the silver gradually turns brighter.

Finally, rinse the jewelry with tap water. Dry the pieces with a clean absorbent towel and polish them with a soft cloth. If you want to minimize the effect of moisture in sterling silver, keep in mind that you should keep your jewelry in plastic bags, strip or spray them with stain resistant products that absorb moisture
